Antonio Quirós

Antonio qualified as a Spanish lawyer in 1999. Before joining Avante in 2013, Antonio worked for the Spanish law firm Uría Menéndez for more than ten years and  for the English law firms Stephenson Harwood and DLA Piper for more than four years.

In 2010 and 2011, Antonio was a foreign associate at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, working in their New York office. Antonio specialises in maritime law, insurance law (both marine and non-marine) and international trade law. His practice includes litigation/arbitration and transactional work.

Throughout his career, Antonio has handled numerous marine casualties, disputes under shipbuilding contracts, cargo claims under all types of transport agreements, penalty and detentions proceedings brought by Spanish maritime authorities, ship arrests, mortgage enforcement proceedings and all other types of proceedings related to the maritime and transportation activities. Likewise, Antonio also advices on commercial transactions for the financing, construction, sale/purchase and distribution of industrial assets.

A substantial part of this work is referred to Antonio by foreign clients, mainly, shipowners and operators, international law firms, P&I Clubs and insurance companies.

Antonio is regularly recognised as a leading maritime and transport lawyer in leading international legal publications and directories. He is ranked in Band 2 in Chambers Europe: Spain (2024 edition).
